Janice Tjen Advances to the Semifinal of the Merida Open 2026 Women's Doubles

JAKARTA - Indonesia's mainstay tennis player, Janice Tjen, managed to advance to the semifinals of the women's doubles event at the 2026 Merida Open WTA 500 with her partner from Poland, Katarzyna Piter.

The pair survived the tournament thanks to a straight-set victory 7-6 (3) and 6-3 over the Czech Republic and United States pair, Marie Bouzkova/Ann Li, on Thursday, February 26, 2026 Mexico time or Friday, February 27, 2026 WIB.

Janice and Piter failed to take advantage of the three break points they got in the fifth game of the first set, leaving them 1-4 behind. They then amazingly held off five set points against their opponents and forced the tie-break.

Marie Bouzkova/Ann Li got the first set point in the eighth game, but failed to execute it. They then lost the serve in the next game so Janice and Piter got closer.

In the 10th game, Janice/Piter performed amazingly and managed to break four break points against their opponents. As a result, they tied the score to 5-5 and forced the match to get longer.

After winning the first set dramatically, Janice/Piter performed better in the second set. They lost two serves in the first three games before rising brilliantly after the score was 3-3.

Three consecutive points then brought them to the semi-finals to meet the second seed Christina Bucsa/Jiang Xinyu. The Spanish-Chinese pair went to the semi-finals after defeating the Indian and Japanese pairs, Rutuja Bhosale/Makoto Ninomiya.

In addition to playing in the women's doubles, Janice also actually appeared in the Merida Open singles sector. Unfortunately, in that number he was eliminated early in the first round due to losing against Camila Osorio (Colombia).

After Mexico, Janice will most likely continue her journey to the WTA 1000 Indian Wells event on March 4-15, 2026. The tournament with the most spectators outside the four Grand Slams will take place in California, USA.
