Situbondo District Court Fines Illegal Racing Perpetrators Rp3 Million

JAKARTA - The Situbondo District Court (PN), East Java, took firm action against illegal racing by imposing a maximum fine of Rp. 3,000,000 to the perpetrators of illegal racing.

The decision of the Situbondo District Court is a form of response to public unrest due to illegal racing actions in addition to disturbing public order, but also the high risk of safety for other road users.

"The court sentenced the maximum fine for the perpetrators of the illegal racing action of Rp3 million, the decision was not negotiable," said Situbondo District Court Public Relations Officer Alto Antonio as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 27.

He said that today there were 73 illegal racing perpetrators who were sentenced to a fine of Rp. 3 million, and that each illegal racing perpetrator must pay, If they do not pay the fine, their motorcycles will be confiscated and auctioned by the prosecutor's office.

Alto explained that the decision of the panel of judges was firm by considering the impact of illegal racing actions that could threaten the safety of the perpetrators and others.

"The consideration of this wild racing judge is disturbing the community and threatening the safety of the perpetrators and others," he said.

He said that the maximum sentence with a fine of Rp. 3 million is expected to be a deterrent for perpetrators or those who watch illegal racing, because the presence of spectators is part of illegal racing.

"Supporting illegal racing such as watching is the same because there will be no illegal racing if there are no spectators," said Antonio.

He said the payment of the fine could be made from today to the next seven days after the verdict, and if the fine was not paid, their motorcycles would be confiscated and auctioned by the Situbondo District Attorney's Office.

Meanwhile, one of the residents of Situbondo, Fendi, gave full support to law enforcement officers who had taken firm action against the illegal racing action.

"We certainly support the firm steps of the Situbondo District Court, the maximum fine of Rp. 3 million, can be a deterrent to young people who often carry out illegal racing that endanger other road users," he said.
