Threads Test DM Shortcuts to Send Messages Easier
Threads is currently testing an automatic shortcut feature to make it easier to send messages via Direct Messenger (DM). This feature is already on the X platform, still with a different display.
On X, this auto-reply shortcut is very obvious at the bottom of the post. However, the shortcut in Threads looks more like a hyperlink so it can be slipped in the middle of the sentence.
"We're testing a shortcut to make it easier to continue a conversation in DM. To start, we're doing a trial in the US and Canada," Threads said in a post on Thursday, February 26.
Threads also explains how this feature works. To get the shortcut, users only need to add the phrase 'DM me' or 'Message me' in their uploads. This shortcut will be added automatically.
When the shortcut is tapped, users will be directed to a one-on-one chat room with the user who uploaded the post. This is much easier than having to open the profile and press the DM button first.
If both users follow each other, the message will go directly to the main inbox. However, if you don't follow each other, the message will go to the 'Message Request' folder to filter out potential spam, similar to what's in X.
Threads also gives users full control to manage the privacy of their inbox. They can choose whether to accept message requests from unknown people or limit it.
