101 Batang Hari Jambi Residents Get Measles, 6 Children of the Anak Dalam Tribe
JAKARTA - A total of 101 residents of Batang Hari Regency, Jambi, are suspected of contracting measles, with six of them being positive based on laboratory test results.
Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Health Office (Dinkes) of Batang Hari Regency, Wendrawati said that of the six who tested positive for measles, three were members of the Anak Dalam Tribe (SAD).
"Based on data from health centers and hospitals, there are 101 suspected cases. A total of 12 samples have come out, and six of them are positive for measles," he said in Batang Hari, Friday, quoted by Antara.
Wendrawati detailed that of the six positive cases, three patients were SAD residents and the other three were members of the general public.
The suspected measles cases are spread across eight sub-districts in Batang Hari Regency with the main target being school-age children and infants.
According to him, measles is a contagious disease caused by a virus that spreads quickly through the splash of fluid (droplet) from the sufferer.
"The most common symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, cold, and red rash on the skin. If any relatives experience these symptoms, immediately check to the nearest health center," he said.
He appealed to the public to increase vigilance by ensuring that children receive complete immunizations, maintain environmental cleanliness, and carry out self-isolation for those infected to prevent widespread transmission.
In addition, the local health center has also increased its treatment efforts through environmental disinfection and providing education to the community.
"We hope that with cooperation and public awareness, we can reduce the spread of measles," he said.
