Listyo Sigit Prabowo Praised as Firm and Transparent in Handling Brimob Officer Case
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Public Care Youth Movement (GPPMI) expressed its appreciation and full support to Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the National Police Chief for his firm, professional, and law enforcement-oriented leadership in handling the case of alleged criminal acts of persecution by members of the Mobile Brigade against a student in Tual City, Maluku Province, which resulted in the victim's death.
"We appreciate and fully support the National Police Chief for his commitment to transparent and professional law enforcement. The leadership of the National Police Chief shows that the National Police continues to move towards a modern institution that is trusted by the community," said Founder of the Indonesian Youth Movement for Community Care (GPPMI), Robertus Juan Pratama to reporters, Friday, February 27.
GPPMI, said Juan, considers that the commitment of the National Police Chief to ensure that the legal process runs transparently, objectively, and accountable is a real implementation of the principle of the rule of law (rechtstaat) as mandated in Article 1 paragraph (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia in 1945, which states that Indonesia is a state of law.
According to Juan, in the perspective of state governance and state administrative law, the action of the National Police Chief in ordering the handling of cases professionally and ensuring the openness of the legal process is a form of implementation of the general principles of good governance, especially the principle of legal certainty, the principle of accountability, and the principle of openness.
"GPPMI assesses that the policy of the National Police Chief in handling the case shows that the police institution does not tolerate acts of abuse of authority by state officials. The approach taken reflects the strong commitment of the National Police in maintaining the supremacy of the law while protecting the rights of the community," said Juan.
Juah revealed that GPPMI believes that handling this case has an important significance in the context of strengthening the national law enforcement system, especially in upholding the principle of equality before the law. Therefore, the steps taken by the National Police Chief to ensure that the legal process runs against the police officers are a manifestation of the principle that the law applies to all parties without exception.
"The firmness of the National Police Chief shows that the police institution has a strong commitment to enforcing the law fairly. Taking firm action against members is an important step in maintaining the integrity of the police institution," he explained.
Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of GPPMI, Jonatan Panjaitan, stated that the National Police Chief's policy in handling this case reflects the principle of fair law enforcement. According to him, transparency in handling cases is an important indicator of the professionalism of the police institution.
"We express our full support to the National Police Chief in ensuring that the legal process is carried out objectively and transparently. The firmness of the National Police Chief is a tangible proof of the commitment of the National Police in enforcing the law without discrimination," he said.
Jonatan also emphasized that public support for the National Police was an important factor in strengthening the national law enforcement system. His party believes that the leadership of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo will continue to strengthen the police institution as a professional and trusted law enforcement agency.
"GPPMI invites all elements of society to support the ongoing law enforcement process as part of a joint effort to strengthen the rule of law in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," concluded Jonatan.
