Democrats Respect Citizens' Petition for the Supreme Court to Ban the President's Family from Running for Office

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Herman Khaeron, responded to the lawsuit against the Election Law to the Constitutional Court (MK). Where the Constitutional Court prohibits the family of the president or vice president from serving to nominate themselves as presidential and/or vice presidential candidates.

According to Herman, every citizen has the right to file a lawsuit against the law.

The Democrats, he said, would respect every decision of the Constitutional Court.

"To sue the Constitutional Court is the right of all citizens. The right of all citizens, of course, we must respect it. About what the results will be later, yes, we will wait for the Constitutional Court's decision," said Herman Khaeron at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, February 26.

"So we just respect it, because it is the right of all citizens," he continued.

Questioning the lawsuit as violating the right of citizens to be elected, Herman said it was the judge's authority. However, according to him, the plaintiff also has the right to make any lawsuit.

"Yes, the judge's consideration later. We are not involved in the reasoning of this debate, this discussion. However, if later there is a community entity that sues, of course it is the right of the plaintiff, and of course it will be handed over to the judge to consider what the decision of the Constitutional Court will be decided," explained the DPR member.

Previously, residents named Raden Nuh and Dian Amalia filed a lawsuit against the Election Law at the Constitutional Court (MK).
