KY Monitors Trial of ABK Case Charged with Smuggling 2 Tons of Methamphetamine
JAKARTA - The Judicial Commission (KY) stated that it was ready to monitor the trial of the death of a student of Mataram University in the Mataram District Court (PN) in West Nusa Tenggara and the case of drug smuggling by crew members (ABK) in the Batam District Court, Riau Islands.
The statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the KY Desmihardi in response to the recommendations of the results of the public hearing (RDPU) of Commission III of the DPR RI regarding the two cases.
"KY RI is ready to implement the recommendations of Commission III of the DPR RI to monitor the examination process of these two cases. KY will immediately deploy a monitoring team to monitor the two cases," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 26.
In principle, said Desmihardi, the Attorney General's Office always monitors the examination of cases in court, especially for cases that receive public attention such as the two cases also highlighted by the legal affairs commission.
He has not been able to confirm whether or not there is a request for monitoring the trial from the public sent to the KY regarding this case in NTB and in Kepri. However, monitoring the trial is still possible.
"Even if there is no request for monitoring, KY RI can proactively monitor the examination of the case," he said.
He also emphasized that KY would monitor the implementation of the examination of the two cases in question as authorized by Law Number 18 of 2011 concerning the Judicial Commission.
The DPR Commission III held a RDPU with the family of Radiet Ardiansyah, the defendant in the case of the murder of NMV, a student at Mataram University, as well as the family of Fandi Ramadan, the crew of the Sea Dragon ship who was sentenced to death for carrying 2 tons of methamphetamine.
During the meeting, Radiet's mother, Makkiyati, asked Commission III of the DPR to help provide justice for her son. He believes his son is not the perpetrator of the murder of the student.
Meanwhile, the lawyer who accompanied Radiet's family, Hotman Paris, considered the case strange. Because, he said, Radiet was also found injured, not far from the location of the NMV victim.
On the other hand, member of Commission III of the DPR Martin Tumbelaka assessed that the prosecutor from the Batam District Attorney's Office ignored several elements that could actually be considered before submitting a criminal charge of death against Fandi Ramadan.
From his monitoring, Martin said Fandi was neither a controller nor an initiator in the drug smuggling case. That is, according to him, Fandi has no authority.
Therefore, Commission III of the DPR submitted a recommendation that KY monitor the proceedings of the two cases.
"Commission III of the DPR RI asks the Judicial Commission to supervise the handling of cases No. 12/Pid.B/2026/PN Mtr and No. 863/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Btm in accordance with laws and regulations," said Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman.
