SK Menhut Landasi Penggunaan Kayu Hanyutan Demi Pemulihan Pascabencana

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of the Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, said the issuance of the Minister of Forestry Decree opened opportunities in the utilization of driftwood to accelerate the rehabilitation of affected areas.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said that the Minister of Forestry Decree Number 191 of 2026 provides a strong and clear legal basis, ensuring that wood carried away by floods can be optimally utilized to support the reconstruction of infrastructure and housing for the community.

"In Aceh there are so many. It's the ocean. What's the name of the ocean? Wood. So if you want to make firewood, it's easy," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 26.

Piles of logs carried away by the flood are still found in Aceh.

With the issuance of the SK Menhut, he said, the government now has a clear and legitimate basis to manage and utilize the wood responsibly and structured.

Some of the wood can be processed into lumber for board and construction materials, while wood that cannot be processed into building materials can be used for other needs.

"The wood can be used or given to the regents/mayors in coordination with the governor. I have conveyed (to) the Minister of Forestry (at the meeting) yesterday. The Minister of Forestry has made a SK," he said.

On Tuesday (24/12), the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antonimenerbitkan, issued SK Minister of Forestry Number 191 of 2026 concerning the Acceleration of Utilization of Wood from Natural Disasters as a Material Resource for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction after Natural Disasters in Aceh Province, North Sumatra Province and West Sumatra Province.

The Minister of Forestry Regulation, regulates in detail the types of wood that can be utilized, including round wood or wood debris (waste/fragments) due to natural disasters.

Based on this legal basis, driftwood can be used for the construction of public facilities and social facilities for affected communities, the construction of housing for affected communities and other uses to support the acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction according to needs.

The utilization of the wood is carried out by the regent and the mayor through coordination with the governor. To ensure that the wood scattered in the disaster location is used appropriately, the regent and or the mayor must report the activities to the governor with a copy to the Head of the PRR Task Force in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
