JAKARTA - The police secured the student perpetrator of the persecution who beat a female student who was preparing for a seminar on her thesis proposal at the campus of the Sultan Syarif Kasim II State Islamic University, Pekanbaru City, Riau. The motive for the persecution is suspected to be due to love affairs.

Head of Public Relations of the Riau Police, Kombes Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, explained that the incident occurred on the second floor of the Faculty of Law and Sharia, Thursday around 08.30 WIB.

The victim is known as Faradhila Ayu Pramesi (23), who suffered injuries to the head and arm due to the persecution allegedly carried out by the suspect with the initials R (21).

"Currently, the suspect has been secured at the Binawidya Sector Police to undergo further legal proceedings. Investigators have also conducted an investigation of the crime scene to collect evidence professionally," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 26.

After the incident, the victim immediately received first aid at the Emergency Room (IGD) of the Bhayangkara Hospital, Pekanbaru. Currently, the victim is still under medical treatment and is planned to be referred to the Arifin Achmad Regional General Hospital for further treatment.

In this case, investigators applied Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code Article 469 with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison. The motive for the incident is still being investigated by investigators.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pekanbaru City Police, AKP Anggi Rian Diansyah, said the perpetrator had been secured at the Binawidya Police Station along with evidence in the form of an axe and a machete used in the incident.

"It is suspected that it was triggered by personal issues related to romantic relationships, but we are still investigating the motives and chronology," he said.
