Russia Questions How the Board of Peace Will Cooperate with the UN Security Council

JAKARTA - Russia questioned how the Board of Peace, alias the Peace Council, formed by US President Donald Trump would work with the United Nations Security Council (UN), which has been the main axis of international peacemaking since the end of World War II.

"The Peace Board Charter defines itself as a new international structure designed to replace 'mechanisms that have too often proved ineffective'," said Russian Foreign Ministry (Kemenlu) official Kirill Logvinov, quoted by TASS, Thursday, February 26.

Director of the International Organizations Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Logvinov added, the mandate of the Board of Peace never mentioned Gaza.

"It is clear that this approach raises questions about how the Peace Council will coexist with the United Nations and its Security Council, which is the only universally recognized body to maintain international peace and security," Logvinov said.

Trump first proposed the Board of Peace in September 2025. At that time, the US property billionaire launched his plan to end Israel's invasion of Gaza.

Later, Trump said the scope of the Peace Board would be expanded to address other conflicts globally - an effort generally overseen by the United Nations.

The United States is known to be the only permanent member of the UN Security Council to join the Board of Peace. Other members of the UN Security Council are Russia, China, Britain, and France.
