Soroti Kompolnas Evidence of Drugs Abused by Police Officers

JAKARTA - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) highlighted the phenomenon of drug evidence being misused by members of the National Police to be sold again.

Kompolnas Secretary Arief Wicaksono said his party had received a shocking fact, one of which was drugs that were diverted by personnel and sold at fantastic prices up to billions of rupiah.

"Imagine, the evidence that is misused by officers, law enforcement officers, can be diverted, set aside, embezzled at a fantastic price," he said, quoted by ANTARA, February 26.

According to him, the abuse occurred due to the weak supervision of evidence in drug cases.

"Why? Because in areas that are a little far away, they don't have incinerators and laboratories (forensic laboratories). The incinerator is a tool for destroying evidence (drugs)," he said.

He said that when drug evidence was brought on a long journey to be destroyed in another city, there was the potential for interference from drug traffickers. In addition, it is also potentially set aside by personnel to be sold again.

Arief also revealed that the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, represented by the Deputy for Law and Cooperation of the BNN RI Agus Irianto, invited the Regional Police to utilize the incinerator owned by the Provincial BNN (BNNP).

"They invite local Polda-Polda who do not have evidence destruction tools to cooperate with BNNP. So, evidence can be destroyed there, including the labfor," he said.

Through this collaboration, he continued, it is hoped that it can minimize the potential for drug abuse by individual personnel.

On Thursday, Kompolnas held a FGD with the theme "Strategies for Prevention and Enforcement of Law against Drug Abuse by Police Personnel".

The forum was attended by a number of speakers and active participants, including TPPU Expert Yenti Garnasih, Propam Accreditation of the Main Police TK II Divpropam Polri Kombes Pol. Armaini, Deputy for Law and Cooperation of the BNN RI Agus Irianto, and Deputy Head of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Kombes Pol. Sunaryo.
