Defending Russian Terror, Ukraine Builds Anti-Drone Net on Highways
JAKARTA - Ukraine plans to install anti-drone nets resembling tunnels on its highways. The target of this 4,000-kilometer project is completed by the end of 2026.
"Ukraine is accelerating the construction of an anti-drone network to protect against enemy UAVs [drones] in border areas. By the end of 2026, it is planned to install anti-drone protection along the road," the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said, quoted by the Pravda media, Thursday, February 26.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said it had allocated an additional budget of 1.6 billion UAH or about USD37 million for the anti-drone net project.
The development of anti-drone shelters will continue to be maximized even though in February 2026 the weather conditions in Ukraine worsened. This month, it was recorded that about 125 km of roads had been covered with nets.
Separately, Ukraine's Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov said Russia was using drones near the front lines of the war.
"At the president's instruction, we are strengthening the protection of the front line area and accelerating the development of anti-drone nets. The focus is on roads that ensure uninterrupted logistics and the function of hromada [district] near the contact line of battle," he said.
In a month, according to him, the speed of installing this anti-drone protection increased from 5 km per day in January 2026 to 12 km per day in February 2026. This significantly increases the security of military movement and ensures the stable functioning of the front-line hromada.
"In March, we plan to install 20 km of anti-drone nets per day. By the end of the year, we intend to equip another 4,000 km of roads with anti-drone protection," said Fedorov.
