Yenny Wahid Emphasizes Indonesia's Commitment to Cliff Climbing, There is No Tolerance for Harassment and Violence

JAKARTA - The case of sexual harassment by a coach to the rock climbers is being hotly debated. The Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation Central Management (PP FPTI) immediately took action.

Through the General Secretary of the PP FPTI, Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, the federation immediately formed a fact-finding team (TPF) to investigate the allegations, while the alleged perpetrator of the abuse, namely coach Hendra Basir, was disabled.

"So, according to the organizational decree (SK), Hendra Basir was dismissed temporarily until there was a decision from the TPF that had been formed," said Wahyu some time ago.

Because of the gravity of the case, the General Chair of the PP FPTI, Yenny Wahid, reiterated Indonesia's commitment to not tolerate harassment and violence against athletes.

Yenny said the federation immediately moved to protect the athletes who were reported to be victims of the abuse as a first step.

"I as the Chairman of the PP FPTI have received a report of alleged ethical violations and immediately moved quickly to protect the athletes."

"We have formed an internal investigation team headed by the Head of the Legal Division of the PP FPTI, Mr. Harry Ponto, who is also a prominent lawyer."

"The coach as the reporter has been deactivated from his position and an independent investigation process is underway. The federation under my leadership is committed to protecting all victims and upholding the principle of zero tolerance for sexual harassment and physical violence," said Yenny Wahid in a statement to VOI.id.

The sexual harassment and physical violence were allegedly carried out by Hendra Basir against a number of athletes on January 28, 2026. Based on the report in the decision letter (SK) of the FPTI, it is said that there are eight athletes as victims.

The PP FPTI further emphasized that the case would also involve several parties, such as the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection.

In fact, it is not impossible that the incident will be brought to the legal realm.

"As for the legal process on the part of the authorities (police), I can't comment on whether it has already happened or not. The reason is, this is also a sensitive case for the victim who is an athlete," said Wahyu.

Meanwhile, Hendra Basir denied having sexually harassed and physically assaulted eight Indonesian rock climbers.

Hendra said that he had never been asked to clarify the alleged action until the decision letter from the PP FPTI regarding the deactivation as head coach came out.

"Please ask the eight athletes concerned, which part I did sexual harassment and physical violence," he said.

Hendra's term as coach will actually end on February 28, 2026. He is certain that he will no longer occupy his position, whatever the result of the TPF, because according to the federation's decision letter, his name is not on the list of coaches.
