100 Satpol PP-Dishub Disiagakan, PKL and Illegal Parking in Tanah Abang are Strictly Monitored During Ramadan

JAKARTA - The Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, ensures that the supervision of illegal parking and traders who spill onto the sidewalk in the Tanah Abang Market area is tightened during Ramadan.

The crackdown was carried out after the Jakarta Central Government had dismantled stalls and trading activities that took up the shoulders of the road to the sidewalk around Tanah Abang Market, which was flooded at the beginning of Ramadan.

"Because we know that Tanah Abang is still the center of choice for people to shop for Eid needs. Not only for their own needs, family, but also there is a need for sales as well, wholesale, sold again to other places," said Arifin to reporters, Thursday, February 26.

To prevent traders from expanding into the road body, the City Government has placed joint officers from the Satpol PP and the Transportation Service (Dishub) at a number of vulnerable points. Arifin admitted that areas with high activity such as Tanah Abang often return to chaos when supervision is weakened.

"Yes, it is like in some places, it is sometimes when supervision is a little less, yes, try it like that," he said.

Arifin also ensured that there was no resistance during the crackdown. He admitted to having a direct dialogue with traders who spilled onto the shoulders of the road. According to him, after being given an explanation, traders were willing to return to their respective kiosks.

Furthermore, Arifin explained, supervision is not carried out 24 hours a day, but is focused on market operating hours.

"If Tanah Abang, we can see it, starting at 5 o'clock it has started to be quiet. So it's true that during the busy hours, the hours where Tanah Abang Market is opened, between 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock, it's 5 o'clock," he explained.

He ensured that officers were always at the location during rush hours. The total number of personnel deployed each day reached around 100 people, a combination of Dishub and Satpol PP. "Yesterday, we placed Dishub there were 40 people. If Satpol PP is between 50 to 70. Alternating," said Arifin.

In addition, public infrastructure and facilities (PPSU) handling officers are also asked to routinely clean the area because the volume of waste increases with the high level of trading activity.

He assessed that the order of the area was a common interest, including traders. If the condition is neat and comfortable, buyers will come more. On the other hand, the condition of the slums and traffic jams is actually detrimental to the traders themselves.

"If it's dirty, dirty, yes, it's hard to make a road and so on, yes, people will also be lazy to come to Tanah Abang again, that's it," he added.
