Don't Ask When We Die But How Long We Can Live Healthy

JAKARTA - A study was conducted to find out how long humans can live. Of course if you don't have an accident or get killed by a savage disease like cancer.

The researchers concluded that humans can live between 120 and 150 years. That's our maximum age. The research was published in the journal Nature Communications.

The researchers said the calculation only applies to humans with perfect health conditions without heart disease or cancer. There may be a lot of research on how long the natural process of aging takes.

But this one is a bit different because the point of view is the resilience of the human body. The research team from Gero, a Singapore-based company, took samples of residents of the United States (US), Britain, and Russia.

By looking at changes in the number of blood cells they can predict the decline in body condition with age. Quoted by Futurism, at the age of 120 and 150 the natural resistance of the human body will experience complete failure, where the body experiences complete death.

However, there is an interesting perspective offered through this research. Instead of questioning how long we can live, why not find out how long we can live healthy.

"Death isn't the only thing that matters," said Heather Whitson, director of the Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development.

"Other things, like quality of life, start to become more important as people experience their loss," he added.

The oldest living human

In the study the scientists also gave records of the oldest recorded people who ever lived in the world. This is Jeanne Calment. Quoted from Scientific American records, Jeanne died in France at the age of 122.

Currently the oldest living human is Kane Tanaka. Last January, Tanaka, who lives in a nursing home in Fukuoka, Japan, just celebrated his 118th birthday. Launching The Mainichi, he celebrated his birthday with other residents of the nursing home.

Tanaka was born on January 2, 1903. Guinness World Records named him the oldest living person in the world in March 2019. At that time, Tanaka was 116 years old. Tanaka is said to have spent his days exercising.

In addition, Tanaka also regularly studies mathematics and plays the board game, Othello. However, when asked what the secret to his long life was, Tanaka did not mention the activities above. He actually called eating well as the key to longevity.

This was confirmed by Tanaka's nurses, who said the old man was said to have a habit of drinking soda. Tanaka also still likes to eat chocolate. In addition to the nurses, Tanaka's grandson, Eiji, who was then 61 years old, was also grateful for Tanaka's way of life.

"This year has been a difficult year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but thank God Kane is fine... I'm happy because he's enjoying his days so much," said Eiji.
