Strengthen Security, WhatsApp Will Introduce Traditional Password Options

JAKARTA - Since it was first launched, WhatsApp has never provided alphanumeric password support. However, at a time when security is getting more sophisticated, the support has just been added.

This feature was first discovered by WABetaInfo in the latest beta version for Android 2.26.7.8 which is being tested internally. With this password support, users can rely on another authentication system that is considered more secure.

This addition of traditional passwords is presented to combat SIM card exchange or SIM swap crimes. Hackers can even take over accounts easily through the theft of OTP codes sent to the victim's phone number.

This feature seems to be coming soon. Although it is presented as an additional security platform, WhatsApp does not require its users to use password support.

This password is optional for anyone who wants to strengthen account protection. For users who activate this feature, they will face three layers of security barriers at once, including an OTP code and a six-digit PIN.

WhatsApp has not set an official release date for the new security feature. WhatsApp has also not been seen testing the feature on other platforms, such as iOS-based devices.
