BPBD Asesmen Victims of Central Lombok Floods, Provisional Data 1,500 KK Affected

JAKARTA - The Central Lombok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) assessed the damage from flooding due to extreme weather that occurred from February 23-24.

"After the natural disaster, we are conducting data collection on the impact caused," said Head of BPBD Lombok Tengah Ridwan Maruf in Central Lombok, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.

He said that based on provisional data, flooding due to extreme weather with high intensity rainfall that occurred for two days and two nights resulted in flooding in three sub-districts, including Pujut, Praya Barat and Praya Timur sub-districts.

"The current condition of the water has begun to recede," he said.

He said the cause of the flood was due to heavy rain, so that the river water overflowed and entered the residents' houses and at several points on the road in Central Lombok was flooded, such as in the Kuta Village area, as well as public facilities were also affected.

"There were no casualties," he said.

He said that based on provisional data, the number of affected residents reached 1,500 families spread across several villages in the 3 sub-districts.

In addition, there was strong winds which caused damage to residents' houses in the Batukliang District area.

Currently, most of the Central Lombok area has entered the rainy season period and a small portion is still in the transitional season period.

"The potential for rain is quite significant in the next 10 days, so the public is advised to pay attention to cleanliness and discharge in water flow areas. The public needs to be aware of the potential for extreme rain and strong winds that can occur suddenly," he said.
