US Fugitive Murderer in Suitcase Deported from Bali

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration through the Immigration Detention House (Rudenim) Denpasar, Bali, deported a citizen of the United States with the initials TS, after the convicted murderer whose body was put in a suitcase in 2014 completed his sentence.

Head of the Bali Immigration Directorate General Office Felucia Sengky Ratna said TS was released from Kerobokan Class II A Correctional Institution (Lapas) on Tuesday (17/2), then deported on Tuesday (24/2) night through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

"After TS completes his sentence, our task is to ensure that the person concerned is no longer in our sovereign territory, considering that the serious crimes he has committed have disrupted public order and the applicable legal norms," said Sengky as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 25.

TS was previously sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Denpasar District Court on July 9, 2015 for being proven to have violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code.

The man was involved in a murder case in which the victim's body was put in a suitcase that occurred at a luxury hotel in the Nusa Dua area, Bali.

At that time, TS together with HLM, his ex-girlfriend who also came from the US, was involved in a heinous act that took the life of HLM's biological mother.

Meanwhile, HLM was released early on October 29, 2021 and deported to Rudenim Denpasar on November 2, 2021.

After TS was declared innocent from Kerobokan Prison, TS was immediately taken to the Immigration Office of Class I Special Immigration Inspection Point Ngurah Rai for his return process until he was transferred to Rudenim Denpasar.

Sengky said that during his detention at Rudenim Denpasar, officers ensured that all departure administration and coordination with the US Consulate went smoothly.

Based on the criminal series carried out, TS was subject to immigration administrative action in the form of deportation, as mandated by Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

Sengky emphasized that this deportation was a tangible form of his institution's commitment to enforcing the law in Indonesian territory.

In addition to being expelled from Indonesian territory, the Denpasar Rudenim also proposed the name TS to be on the blacklist.

Based on Article 102 of the Immigration Law, detention can be carried out for up to ten years, even a lifetime for those who are considered to seriously threaten security and public order.

"The final decision regarding the duration of the detention will be made by the Directorate General of Immigration after considering all aspects of the case and the social impact caused," said Sengky.
