Hendra Basir Dismissed from Cliff Climbing Coach, Alleged Sexual Harassment
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Bouldering Federation (PP FPTI) officially deactivated head coach Hendra Basir due to alleged sexual harassment of athletes.
The Secretary General of the PP FPTI, Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, said that the federation also immediately formed a fact-finding team (TPF) to investigate the allegations.
"So, according to the organizational decree (SK), Hendra Basir was dismissed temporarily until there was a decision from the TPF that had been formed," he said, as reported by Antara.
Hendra is suspected of sexually harassing and physically assaulting a number of athletes on January 28, 2026. Based on the report in the decision letter (SK) of the FPTI, it is said that there are eight athletes as victims.
Wahyu said that the federation does not tolerate such actions and ensures that it will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection regarding this issue.
"As for the legal process on the part of the authorities (police), I can't comment on whether it has already happened or not. The reason is, this is also a sensitive case for the victim who is an athlete," he said.
On the other hand, Hendra Basir denied having committed sexual harassment and physical violence against eight Indonesian rock climbers.
Hendra said that he had never been asked to clarify the alleged action until the decision letter from the PP FPTI regarding the deactivation as head coach came out.
"Please ask the eight athletes concerned, which part I did sexual harassment and physical violence," he said.
Hendra's term as coach will actually end on February 28, 2026. He is certain that he will no longer occupy his position, whatever the result of the TPF, because according to the federation's decision letter, his name is not on the list of coaches.
