Russian Female Villager to Face Trial in Bali for Hydroponic Cannabis Cultivation Case

DENPASAR - The Denpasar District Attorney's Office has tried a foreign national woman from Russia, Kseniia Varlamova (33), suspected of being involved in an attempt to grow hydroponic marijuana in a house in Ubung Kaja, North Denpasar District, Bali.

Public Prosecutor I Made Lovi Pusnawan in a trial at the Denpasar District Court, Tuesday, February 24, charged the woman who worked as a Tattoo Artist in her country, with two articles, namely Article 111 Paragraph (2) Jo Article 132 and Article 131 Jo Article 111 Paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustment.

He was charged with a threat of life imprisonment.

In the indictment, the prosecutor said the defendant violated the law by attempting or conspiring to commit the crime of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors, who without right or against the law planted, cultivated, possessed, stored, possessed, or provided Narcotics Group I in the form of plants as referred to in paragraph (1) weighing more than 1 kilogram or more than 5 stems of trees.

In front of the panel of judges headed by Iman Luqmanul Hakim, the prosecutor revealed that the defendant was arrested by members of the Bali Regional Police on October 1, 2025 at around 12.30 Wita, inside a house on the 2nd floor, Jalan Bina Kusuma IV Desa Merta Gangga, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar District, Denpasar City.

"The defendant knew that her husband's activities, Nirul Rashim (the defendant in a separate case), had planted marijuana plants in the house, in a black hydroponic tent," he said.

So the defendant is suspected of committing an attempt or conspiracy to commit the crime of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors.

In addition, there was also deliberately not reporting the criminal acts committed by her husband Rashim Abdoelrazak (30) Dutch citizen (the accused in a separate case).

"The defendant also took a photo of the seeds of the marijuana plant belonging to her husband, but the defendant deliberately did not report it to the authorities," said the prosecutor.

In his indictment, the JPU revealed that in the disclosure of the case, the police found marijuana narcotics in various forms, ranging from seeds, dried leaves, to wet leaves.

The total evidence seized weighed 278.2 grams gross or 130.06 grams net.

Not only that, the Bali Police also found 14 live marijuana trees with a height of between 15 to 100 cm, as well as 91 marijuana seeds which are still in the growth stage.

The plants are planted in pots, polybags, and special containers placed inside the house, using a hydroponic system.

Based on the results of the Bali Police Forensic Laboratory examination, all evidence was positive for containing cannabis type narcotics which are included in Group I Narcotics as regulated in Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

In the trial at the Denpasar District Court, the woman only bowed her head to listen to the reading of the indictment from the Public Prosecutor.
