Texas Tightens Security Following Mexican Cartel Violence

JAKARTA - Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered an increase in the number of law enforcement units deployed throughout Texas, following a wave of violence in Mexico triggered by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

As is known, Texas is one of the states of the United States that has a direct land border with Mexico.

"Governor Greg Abbott today directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to increase public safety and homeland security operations throughout Texas in response to the increasing violence of cartels in Mexico, which poses an increasing threat to US civilians," Abbott's office said. reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Tuesday, February 25.

Therefore, DPS will increase the deployment of Texas Highway Patrol resources, Texas Rangers, and Special Operations Groups to the border area to monitor and arrest perpetrators of crimes, as well as prevent the potential "transnational threat" from spreading, the office said.

In addition, the local Public Security service will further increase operations through the Tactical Marine Unit and the Air Operations Division along the border area.

Previously on Sunday (22/2), the Mexican Minister of National Defense arrested Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the CJNG cartel known as "El Mencho".

El Mencho later died of his wounds while being transported to Mexico City, prompting cartel members to retaliate by launching violent attacks in several states, as well as setting up roadblocks and burning buildings and vehicles.
