Extreme Weather Triggers Floods and Landslides in Central Lombok

MATARAM - A number of villages in four sub-districts in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) were hit by floods and landslides triggered by extreme weather.

Based on the provisional data of the NTB Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), a number of villages affected by the disaster, Kuta Village, Pengembur Village and Bangket Parak Village in Pujut District. Beleka Village in Janapria District, Ganti Village in Praya Timur District, and Tanak Rarang Village in Praya Barat District.

"Meanwhile, the landslide occurred in Pandan Indah Village, West Praya District," said the Head of the NTB BPBD, Sadimin in Mataram, Tuesday, February 24, reported by ANTARA.

According to him, the floods and landslides in Central Lombok Regency were reported to have occurred at 12.30 WITA. The floods and landslides were caused by moderate to heavy rain, resulting in overflows from rivers and drains.

"For residents and infrastructure that are affected are still in the data collection," he said.

Currently, the team, both the NTB BPBD, the TRC BPBD of the Central Lombok Regency, together with the sub-district and village officers, are down at the scene to handle and document the impact of the disaster.

"The current condition is that the flood is still inundating the affected areas," said Sadimin.

His party appealed to the public to always be vigilant because currently in all areas of NTB have entered the rainy season and some are entering the peak period.

"There is a potential for heavy rain in the third quarter of February 2026. The public is expected to be aware of the potential for extreme weather events that can trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as strong winds, floods and landslides that can occur suddenly," he said.
