PU Minister asks Jember Regent to prepare land for Mangli Flyover construction

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo reviewed the location of the proposed construction of the Mangli Flyover at Simpang Empat Mangli, Jember Regency, East Java, Sunday, February 22.

The 1.1-kilometer flyover is planned to accommodate traffic needs for the next 20 years.

The review was carried out together with the Regent of Jember Muhammad Fawait at the meeting of Jalan Brawijaya and Jalan Hayam Wuruk which is the main gateway to Jember City.

Dody said the construction of the flyover would be carried out collaboratively between the central government and the Jember Regency Government (Pemkab), especially in land provision.

"We will work together with the Regent. I ask that the land needed to build this flyover of around 1.1 kilometers be prepared," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Tuesday, February 24.

According to Dody, the design of the flyover must be comprehensively planned by considering the long-term traffic growth projection, so that it does not quickly experience congestion.

"If there are only two lanes, five years can be full again. The congestion on the flyover is much more dangerous than the ordinary road. Therefore, we must calculate carefully so that it is safe and functional in the long term," he said.

Mangli intersection is considered a strategic point that plays an important role in supporting community mobility, logistics distribution and the development of the area towards industrialization in accordance with the vision of the Jember Regency Government.

The construction of the flyover is expected to increase road user safety as well as facilitate vehicle traffic in the area.

As a follow-up, the PU Ministry will start the mapping of locations, preparation of Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and construction work.

Construction is planned to begin in 2026 with a target of completion of about three years, adjusting to the results of technical planning and land readiness.

"The estimated budget needs are still in the calculation stage and will be adjusted to the results of the DED and the readiness of the land. Hopefully, 2026 can start work," said Dody.

Meanwhile, Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait expressed his appreciation for the central government's support for infrastructure development in the region.

Fawait stated that collaboration between the central and regional governments is expected to accelerate development and encourage community economic growth.

"The Jember Regency Government is optimistic that collaboration between the central and regional governments can accelerate the development of infrastructure and encourage community economic growth," he added.
