Stroke Survivor Dies in Sukoharjo Flood, Was Evacuated to Hospital
JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that a survivor of stroke died in the flood that hit Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, in a statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, said the victim died after being evacuated to the hospital (RS) when his residence was flooded.
BNPB confirmed that heavy rain with a long duration that lasted since Sunday, February 22 evening caused drainage channels and rivers to overflow and flooded three sub-districts, namely Polokarto, Mojolaban, and Grogol.
In addition to the death toll, he said, the flood also forced a number of residents to leave their homes to avoid greater risks.
BNPB recorded 13 heads of households (KK) who fled to Bakalan Village and the Dukuh Klatak embankment. The local government has prepared an additional location for evacuation tents at the Jatiteken embankment as a precautionary measure if the water discharge increases again.
Abdul Muhari revealed that the impact of the damage included 46 houses affected and seven roads flooded. This condition had hampered the mobility of residents and the distribution of assistance.
A joint team of officers from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with related elements are on standby to conduct a rapid assessment in the field to update the impact data and the urgent needs of affected residents.
BNPB appeals to people in flood-prone areas to increase vigilance, especially when it rains with high intensity and long duration, and immediately follow the instructions of officers if asked to evacuate for safety.
