Indonesia Continues to Use Various International Forums to Gather Support for Palestine
JAKARTA - Indonesia will continue to use various international forums to garner support for Palestine and the Two-State Solution, including by holding a Special Palestine Session at the D-8 Summit in Jakarta next April.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono during a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Palestinian Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on the sidelines of the 61st High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday.
The meeting was a strategic momentum to exchange views on the development of the Palestinian peace process as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Indonesia's full support for the Palestinian people's struggle. Indonesia is ready to play a more substantive role in encouraging the achievement of a just and sustainable peace, including through the Board of Peace and the International Stabilization Force (ISF).
Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia would work hard to ensure a transition process that is in line with the interests of the Palestinian people and the principles of international law.
On this occasion, Indonesia reiterated its commitment to continue to contribute to maintaining the sustainability of the ceasefire and encouraging a credible political process towards a two-state solution.
In addition, Foreign Minister Sugiono also conveyed that Indonesia will continue to utilize various international forums to garner support for Palestine, including plans to hold a Special Session on Palestine on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit series in Jakarta on April 15, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen solidarity and international support.
The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs also welcomed the establishment of a Liaison Office by the Palestinian Authority in order to strengthen coordination with the Board of Peace.
Regarding the plan for Indonesian troops to contribute to the ISF, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized, "The main focus of the Indonesian contingent is the protection of civilians and humanitarian support."
Not to forget, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia also expressed hope to welcome the visit of the Palestinian Foreign Minister in Jakarta in the near future.
In turn, Foreign Minister Shahin specifically appreciated Indonesia's political efforts which have been consistent in fighting for the interests of Palestine and also expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance that Indonesia has provided to the Palestinian people.
