Beware! Heavy Rain and Lightning Potentially Flooding a Number of Areas
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather in most major cities in Indonesia will be light rain to light rain on Tuesday, February 24.
BMKG Praktirawan Yuyun quoted by Antara Jakarta reminded the public to be alert to the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in the Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and North Maluku regions.
For the weather in major cities starting from Sumatra Island, Medan City is predicted to be cloudy, while Banda Aceh and Tanjung Pinang will be covered by thick clouds.
"Light rain will pour over Padang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung. Be aware of the potential for lightning that can hit the Bengkulu area," said Yuyun Tuesday morning.
Turning to Java, the weather is expected to be thick clouds in Surabaya City, while Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, and Yogyakarta will be light rain.
The Kalimantan region, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Banjarmasin cities are predicted to have light rain.
"Be aware of the lightning that can occur in Tanjung Selor and Samarinda," he said.
Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather is predicted to be light rain in Mataram City, while Kupang City has the potential for moderate intensity rain.
"Be aware of the lightning that can occur in Denpasar City," said Yuyun.
Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to be rainy with moderate intensity in the Palu, Gorontalo, Kendari, and Manado areas. Makassar City is predicted to be heavy rain.
"Be aware of the lightning that can occur in the Mamuju area," he said.
For the Ambon area, Ternate and Ambon City have the potential for light rain.
Meanwhile, for the Papua region, light rain will pour over most areas ranging from Jayapura, Jayawijaya, Nabire, Manokwari, and Sorong, while Merauke has the potential to rain with moderate intensity.
