iPhone 18 Pro Rumored to Come in Deep Red, Apple Tests More Bold Colors
JAKARTA - Apple is said to be considering a deep red color for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max lines, following a positive response to the orange variant in the previous generation. A report from Bloomberg said this decision was triggered by the high popularity of the iPhone 17 Pro Max orange color in the Chinese market.
Historically, Apple tends to stick with bright colors on non-Pro models, while the Pro line is synonymous with a more muted palette such as graphite, silver, or dark blue. If this rumor is accurate, then Apple is shifting its visual strategy by bringing bolder colors to the premium segment.
Deep red is said to be the main candidate for the two Pro models in the iPhone 18 series. In addition, Apple is rumored to still retain the Cosmic Orange option because it is considered commercially successful. There is also speculation about purple or brown colors, but the report assesses that both are likely to be testing variations of the red spectrum that are being developed.
Even so, these alternative colors are not expected to enter the mass production phase at the official launch. Meanwhile, Apple's rumored folding device, the iPhone Fold, is said to not get a bright color touch. The model is expected to come in two conservative options: black or dark gray, as well as light white or silver.
It's not the first time Apple has been associated with the red color on its premium line. In 2023, there were predictions that the iPhone 15 Pro would come in deep red, but the realization never came. Apple also has a history of releasing PRODUCT(RED) iPhone variants to support charity campaigns, although the red color spectrum varies from generation to generation. Even a special edition Mac Pro unit was once made in a similar color for an auction.
Apart from the color experiment, a separate report said the physical design of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max is likely not to change significantly compared to its predecessor. The popularity of the 17 Pro series is said to be one of the factors, although in practice Apple has usually locked the next generation design long before the current model officially launched.
If Apple does indeed bring deep red to the Pro line, this move could be a signal that premium differentiation is no longer just about materials like titanium or chipset performance, but also bolder visual expressions. In the Chinese market, which is very responsive to aesthetics and status symbols, color can be a decisive variable in sales.
In the end, color strategy is not just cosmetic. It is a message. And if Apple really brings a deep red to the Pro line, it could be a subtle way of saying that the upper class can now appear more expressive,
