Thailand Detains Cambodian Ship Allegedly Catching Illegal Fish

JAKARTA - A Thai Navy patrol boat has detained a Cambodian fishing boat that was illegally fishing in Thai waters.

"The flagless and numberless boat with Cambodian crew was detected by the T 996 patrol boat on Sunday, February 22, while carrying out illegal arrests," said the Thai First Naval Command, reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 23.

The ship was detained and inspected before being escorted to the marina in Khlong Yai, Trat Province. The crew was then handed over to security personnel to undergo legal proceedings.

The command denied Cambodia's claim that the ship was seized in their waters.

Thai Navy data showed the ship was 1 nautical mile inside Thailand's territory from the maritime border at the time of the detention, based on verified coordinates and time markers.
