Minister of PPPA asks the police to be transparent in the legal process of Brimob members who abused children until they died

JAKARTA - Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzimeminta the legal process against the member of the Maluku Regional Police Brimob Bripda MS, a suspect in the case of violence against children who died, to be carried out transparently.

"We are giving this case very serious attention because it involves children as victims and occurs in the context of security activities by the police. Law enforcement must be transparent, objective, and fair in order to provide legal certainty and prevent similar incidents from recurring," said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi as reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 23.

The Ministry of PPPA appreciates the quick response of law enforcement officers who have secured and designated Bripda MS as a suspect.

"We appreciate the law enforcement officers who have named the perpetrators as suspects and we also respect and support the ongoing legal process," said Minister Arifah Fauzi.

For his actions, the suspect is suspected of violating Article 76C Jo. Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a maximum fine of Rp. 3 billion if proven to have committed violence against children to death.

In addition to the criminal process, the person concerned must undergo an examination of the code of ethics based on the 2022 Police Regulation Number 7 concerning the Code of Ethics of the Police Code of Ethics and Commission.

Previously, a boy with the initials AT (14) died after a Brimob member with the initials Bripda MS hit the victim with a tactical helmet in Tual City, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku Province, on Thursday (19/2).

The incident began when Brimob carried out a security patrol in Tual City.

Then there was a group of vehicles that were speeding and allegedly doing illegal racing.

At that time, the victim was riding with his brother with the initials N (15) using a motorcycle. The perpetrator suspected that the victim was part of a group of wild racers.

On the road, the perpetrator swung his tactical helmet which hit the victim's face, until the victim fell from the motorcycle.

The victim was rushed to the Karel Sadsuitubun Langgur Hospital for medical treatment, but unfortunately, his life was not saved.

The victim's brother also suffered abuse which caused a broken bone.
