BNPB: NTB Flooded After Heavy Rain for 2 Days in a Row
MATARAM - Floods have hit a number of areas in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) due to heavy rainfall in the last two days.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that flooding hit several villages in Sekotong Batang Village and Batu Putih Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, on Sunday.
The incident, which was reported by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Lombok Regency at 14.00 Wita, caused 182 heads of households (KK) or 708 people to be affected. However, there were no reports of casualties in the incident.
"The joint team of officers is still conducting data collection and is on standby in the field to anticipate the potential for subsequent flood hazards," he explained in a statement in Jakarta, Monday, February 23.
On Saturday, February 21, floods also hit seven villages in three sub-districts in Bima Regency. Moderate to heavy rain triggered puddles which affected 241 households or 845 people, and caused one family to temporarily evacuate.
BPBD Bima Regency recorded material losses in the form of one house that was severely damaged, two affected educational facilities, as well as one place of worship, village office, and market, which were also affected by the flood.
On Sunday (22/2) evening, the puddle in Labuhan Kenangan Village, Tambora District, was recorded as high as 10 - 70 centimeters, while the flood conditions in Kawinda Na'e Village, Rasabou Village and Oi Panihi Village gradually receded.
BNPB urges the public to remain vigilant against the potential for continued rain that can trigger subsequent flooding.
