Jejak Iman Brotoseno di TVRI: Dari PAW 2020 hingga Isu Efisiensi Kontributor Daerah

JAKARTA - The resignation of Iman Brotoseno from the position of TVRI President Director was revealed through a Zoom meeting recording that circulated on Monday, February 23, 2026. Moreover, TVRI will have a big wish. TVRI officially became the rights holder of the 2026 World Cup which will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

No wonder, this news is surprising because it seems sudden, while until noon there has been no official explanation from management.

Iman was inaugurated as Acting President Director (PAW) on May 27, 2020, replacing Helmy Yahya. He joined TVRI with a non-bureaucratic background. He is an advertising practitioner, reporter, and filmmaker. Outside TVRI, his name is known through the film 3 Srikandi as well as advertising and documentary production work.

During his leadership, TVRI has several times been in the vortex of tightening spending. In February 2025, when news of "ASN layoffs" at TVRI emerged, Iman denied it. According to him, ASN cannot be fired. What was temporarily stopped, he said, was the use of contributor services in regional TVRI. His argument, contributors are paid through the regional TVRI budget and payments occur if their work is aired. He also emphasized that production crews were not fired, while more workers were affected by outsourcing such as security guards, cleaners, and drivers.

Another pressure comes from parliament. In September 2025, in the Hearing Meeting (RDP) of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Member of Commission VII of the DPR Yoyok Riyo Sudibyo openly questioned the performance of TVRI. He highlighted the realization of the 2025 budget until July which was only 49.75 percent. For news programs, the absorption was only 32.47 percent. While the production of new audio-visual broadcasts was only 7.48 percent and the technical production of broadcasts was 5 percent.

"Your budget is on the road, the broadcast is dead, sir. Your TV is in a coma, sir. In the hospital, sir," said Yoyok with a harsh sarcasm as quoted in this one. He also questioned the request for an additional Rp1.18 trillion budget for TVRI for digitization programs, while the old infrastructure was considered not to be optimally utilized. "This is a public TV, what is the ATM TV, sir? The employees' expenses continue to increase, the broadcast is even slower," he criticized.

Based on the data presented in the forum, of the total budget ceiling of Rp. 823 billion in 2026, the Program and News Directorate only received Rp. 36.5 billion or about 4.4 percent. This condition is considered ironic because TVRI carries out the main function as a public broadcasting institution.

Until this news was released, Iman Brotoseno had not responded to VOI's confirmation efforts. TVRI Supervisory Board Chairman Agus Sudibyo has also not given any information. However, one of the Zoom meeting participants confirmed the withdrawal of Iman and said that the official statement would be issued by TVRI.
