The case of consecutive violence and drugs makes the public uneasy, General Sigit asked the police to clean up.
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hinca Panjaitan, urged the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to take firm action against a number of police officers involved in violence and drug cases in the last two weeks.
The demand was made following the alleged persecution by a Brimob member against a child in Tual, Maluku, who died, as well as the discovery of hundreds of police officers who were dragged into drug cases.
According to Hinca, this negative behavior not only damages the image of the institution, but also disturbs the community.
"I ask the brother of the National Police Chief to immediately take quick action by placing it in the Patsus, checking it, and immediately judging it according to the applicable mechanism," said Hinca at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, February 23.
He emphasized that there should be no tolerance for violations committed by law enforcement officers.
"I think there is no more forgiveness, the community is very restless and this is a cultural that must be changed immediately," he continued.
Hinca assessed that the abuse of authority by police officers was at an alarming point. Therefore, Commission III of the DPR RI asked the National Police Chief to immediately take action and explain to the public openly about the steps taken to handle it.
"There is no need to cover it up because this is our joint commitment. Whoever abuses his authority and position, especially related to the cases he handles, especially drugs, there is no forgiveness," he said.
The legislator from the Democratic Party even gave a deadline of one month for the National Police Chief to fix the internal problem.
"The community is waiting. We give time to Mr. Sigit for this one month to be completed. Ramadan, this holy month is the time to fix it. We improve our culture, improve our performance," he said.
According to Hinca, the series of cases of abuse and involvement in drugs reflect cultural problems in the body of the National Police that can no longer be ignored. Internal reform is considered an urgent need.
"That is the cultural reality of the National Police that must be immediately improved, reformed. The key is in the hands of the National Police Chief. All police officers who are on duty or holding positions, pull them all. There is a name for Patsus, put it there, investigate quickly according to the mechanism, then judge according to the rules of the game," he said.
As a commission that deals with law, Commission III emphasized that it would continue to supervise and remind the National Police to correct the internal, especially regarding the behavior of members who abuse their authority.
"Of course there are still many good police. The good ones must certainly be supported, the bad ones must certainly be corrected and judged," concluded Hinca.
