Heavy Rain Floods Natuna, BPBD Warns of Flood and Landslide Threats
NATUNA - The Natuna Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) appeals to the public to increase vigilance following the high intensity of rain in recent days that has the potential to trigger floods and landslides.
Head of the Natuna BPBD, Raja Darmika, said that the high rainfall caused the water discharge to increase drastically.
This condition makes a number of drainage channels unable to accommodate and drain water optimally, so that there are puddles in several residential areas. In fact, there are buildings that have been damaged due to being submerged in water.
"In Serasan, it was reported that there was a bridge that was damaged by the heavy flow of water," he said when confirmed from Natuna, Antara, Monday, February 23.
He explained that the Natuna BPBD was on standby for 24 hours to monitor the development of the situation on the ground. The public is asked to immediately report any incidents or potential disasters so that they can be handled quickly.
Raja Darmika also reminded residents living in vulnerable areas, such as hillsides and riverbanks, to be more careful, especially when heavy rains last for a long time.
BPBD noted that Natuna Regency has the potential for six types of disasters, namely forest and land fires (karhutla), floods, landslides, extreme weather, tidal waves, and drought.
Since January 2026, the Natuna Regency Government has set an emergency disaster alert status which includes floods, landslides, extreme weather, tidal waves to abrasion. This status is valid until March 2026 and can be extended according to the development of the situation.
"The BPBD team remains on standby at the picket post to respond to every report from the community," said Raja Darmika.
