Healthy Sahur Secrets so as not to quickly faint during fasting

JAKARTA - During fasting, a person may feel weak or lack energy, because of limited food and drink intake. However, the feeling of weakness during fasting can actually be prevented.

"Although fasting can be a challenge, especially due to changes in patterns and traditions during Ramadan, there are some strategies that can be done to keep the body energized throughout the day," said nutritionist Nazima Qureshi, quoted from Yeni Safak, on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Nazima said that one of the main causes of body weakness during fasting is because of the habit of choosing high-calorie foods, but low in nutrients during Iftar and Sahur.

These types of foods will indeed make the body feel full quickly. However, the feeling of fullness does not last long and hunger can come faster so that the body is weak during fasting.

Therefore, to prevent weakness during fasting, the food consumed during sahur needs to be considered. Focus on sahur with low-calorie but nutrient-rich foods, especially fiber and protein.

The combination of foods with these two nutrient contents can help keep you full longer, and keep your energy levels stable throughout the day.

"At least ideal sahur must contain carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, and enough fluids," he said.

It is also recommended to avoid sweet foods during sahur. Excessive sugar consumption can trigger a spike in blood sugar that can drop drastically, so that the body feels more tired.

In addition, the adequacy of fluids must also be considered during sahur and breaking the fast, to prevent dehydration. Try to maintain a healthy diet and drink enough when not fasting.

"If someone experiences negative symptoms while fasting, it could be caused by an unhealthy diet outside of fasting hours," concluded Nazima.
