MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani reminds the case of the police beating a child in Tual must be a lesson
JAKARTA - Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani reminded that the case of a Brimob member with the initials Bripda MS who abused a minor to death in Tual, Maluku, must be a lesson for the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri).
According to him, these things are currently often happening in several legal treatments. However, he admitted that he had not followed the issue in detail.
"That should be a lesson and I think we believe that the police, in this case the National Police Headquarters or the Regional Police, will handle it professionally," Muzani said when interviewed by reporters as reported by Antara, after attending a joint fasting activity in Jakarta, Sunday.
He also believes that the National Police Headquarters will look at the facts on the ground that occurred.
In addition, he assessed that the expectations of the public towards the National Police must be properly considered. He assessed that the leadership of the National Police will also hear and study views on the National Police.
According to him, the right decision and must be made by the National Police is a good decision for the community and law enforcement.
"Be patient for a while because the police, in this case the National Police Chief and his staff, will certainly pay attention to what is happening in the field," he said.
Previously, based on the chronology provided by the police, the incident began when the Brimob patrol carried out a condition-creating activity using tactical vehicles in the Tual City and Southeast Maluku Regency areas, Thursday (19/2/2026) early morning.
The patrol was initially at the Mangga Dua Complex, Langgur, until around 02.00 WIT, then shifted to Fiditan Village, Tual City, after receiving reports from residents regarding the alleged beating around the Tete Pancing area.
While at the location, the suspect along with a number of members got out of the vehicle and carried out security. About 10 minutes later, two motorbikes sped at high speed from the direction of Ngadi to Tete Pancing. The suspect is said to have swung the tactical helmet as a signal. However, the helmet hit the right temple of the victim AT (14) until the victim fell from the motorcycle in a prone position.
The victim was then rushed to the Karel Sadsuitubun Langgur Hospital for medical treatment. However, at 13.00 WIT, the victim was declared dead.
