Ramadan Triggers a Spike in Illegal Parking, the DKI Provincial Government Intensifies Enforcement at Markets and Takjil Centers

JAKARTA - Illegal parking practices in Jakarta are said to have increased during the month of Ramadan. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared regular enforcement by targeting points that are considered to interfere with pedestrians and have the potential to cause congestion.

The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, admitted that there was a spike in illegal parking activities every time Ramadan came.

"There has been an increase in illegal parking practices during Ramadan, especially around traditional markets and trading centers," Chico told reporters, Sunday, February 22.

Chico said that the concentration of violations was found in the people's market area and the takjil center which was crowded in the afternoon before breaking the fast.

"Especially for Ramadan 2026, we target discipline in 19 sidewalk points in five administrative city areas, including takjil traders and illegal parking that disturb pedestrians. Discipline is carried out daily, with an average of 100 points per day throughout Jakarta, and will continue to be improved," said Chico.

According to him, parking supervision around traditional markets is carried out in coordination with cross-agencies. This step is also to prevent revenue leakage from the official parking sector.

Parking management in the people's market is handled by Perumda Pasar Jaya and the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Parking Department of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency. The arrangement is focused on parking zoning arrangements, the determination of the concession rate, and the licensing system.

In its implementation, the DKI Provincial Government relies on a joint patrol involving the Transportation Service, Satpol PP, Polri, and TNI. Routine operations are carried out, including docking vehicles that violate and persuasive guidance for illegal parking attendants, such as making a statement to not repeat their actions.

In addition, supervision is strengthened with supporting technology. CCTV cameras are placed in a number of strategic locations. Automatic ticketing enforcement through the ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement) system is also utilized, including citizen reports through the JAKI and Qlue applications.

"Based on the governor's regulations and Jakarta parking reform guidelines, supervision is increased through training of officers and integration with public transportation to reduce congestion," he said.
