Healthy Fasting Without Dehydration, Doctors Reveal the Key

GORONTALO - Internal Medicine Specialist at the Gorontalo Provincial Hospital, Dr. Taufik Ramadhan, appealed to the public, especially Muslims, to maintain their eating patterns, adequate fluid intake, and regulate their medication schedule during fasting.

"For Muslims who are fasting during the month of Ramadan, to maintain their eating patterns, and also arrange a schedule for taking medication for those who need it, so that fasting can be carried out safely and remain healthy," said Taufik, quoted by Antara, Sunday, February 22.

He recommends that when breaking the fast, it should be started with a light meal such as dates or eating other sweet foods as needed.

"Avoid eating excessive sweet foods," he said.

After the Maghrib prayer, eat foods that contain balanced nutrition, both protein, carbohydrates, fat and vitamins.

For sahur, Taufik still recommends eating by paying attention to the balance of nutrition and maintaining portions, so as not to eat too much.

He also shared ways to avoid dehydration, especially during hot weather.

According to him, it is very important to meet the minimum fluid needs of eight glasses of water per day.

"Drinking water can be divided during Iftar, after Maghrib, after Tarawih, before going to bed and during Sahur," he said.

In addition, people who are fasting can still do light exercise before breaking the fast or after tarawih, accompanied by maintaining a minimum of six to eight hours of sleep per day.

He also advised patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, to adjust the schedule for taking medication during Ramadan by consulting a doctor first.

The adjustment is important so that health conditions remain under control during fasting.
