Bule Ngamuk Disturbed by Gili Trawangan Musala Recorded New Zealand Citizen Overstaying
JAKARTA - The citizen (WN) of New Zealand with the initials ML who was upset because the loudspeaker from the mosque in Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, was revealed to be in overstay status on his visit visa.
"The person concerned has been taken to the immigration office for further examination of his residence permit which is 'overstay'," said Head of the North Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP I Komang Wilandra through a written message on the WhatsApp application, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
Wilandra explained this based on the results of assistance from the police from the Gili Indah Sub-sector of Pos Gili Trawangan together with the Pemenang Police for the actions of the Immigration who went to the location to check the status of the female foreigner.
When the police provided security assistance, ML refused to meet the entourage, but through good approach efforts, the foreigner finally wanted to meet the team with the note that there were restrictions on the number of people.
To the immigration authorities, ML admitted that the reason he protested the activities of residents in the mosque was because he felt disturbed by the loudspeakers used for sermons. He considered that it interfered with his rest time at night.
The officer then explained the activities of local residents, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Tadarusan is part of the routine worship of Muslims. The officer also gave an understanding that ML should understand the activity.
ML's action went viral in a video recording that was spread on social media. In the recording, a number of local residents can be seen trying to quell ML's actions who were causing trouble at the mosque on Wednesday night (18/2).
The microphone used by local residents for the sermon was damaged. In fact, there was a resident's cellphone that was seen recording the action, which was also confiscated.
When the village administrator visited ML with the intention of asking for the local residents' mobile phone to be returned, ML refused and threatened with a sharp-edged parang weapon.
It was revealed that ML was on Gili Trawangan to stay at his parents' place who had been expelled by local residents.
After the incident, the police are now providing security around the mosque and the villa where the foreigner lives.
