The following are the Positive Achievement Notes of the Leprosy and Frambusia 2025 Program in Sulbar.
JAKARTA - The West Sulawesi Provincial Health, Population Control, and Family Planning Agency (Dinkes P2KB) recorded positive achievements in the implementation of the leprosy and leprosy program by 2025.
The head of the P2KB Health Service of South Sulawesi Province, dr Nursyamsi Rahimdi Mamuju, Saturday, said that based on the results of performance evaluation, a number of key indicators had exceeded the provincial target.
"This is part of the commitment of the Sulbar Provincial Government in efforts to control tropical infectious diseases to realize superior and character-based human resources," he said.
In the leprosy (leprosy) program, the achievement of new case discovery without disability reached 98 percent, surpassing the provincial target of 86 percent.
"Throughout 2025, there were 199 new cases in all districts, with the highest contribution coming from Polewali Mandar with 107 cases," he said.
Of the total cases, 91 percent were multibasiler (MB) or wet type which requires intensive treatment to prevent nerve damage and permanent disability.
The indicator of leprosy cases in children is at five percent according to the provincial target, namely five percent.
For the completion of treatment (Release From Treatment/RFT) type MB, the achievement reached 81 percent of the target of 90 percent.
"This indicator is a concern to continue to be improved through strengthening compliance with therapy and continuous monitoring of patients," he said.
On the other hand, the frumosa program also showed significant progress, namely four districts managed to obtain frumosa eradication certification, surpassing the initial target which only set two frumosa-free districts.
The results of field screening using Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) in schools and villages, also showed no positive cases.
"This achievement strengthens Sulbar's position in efforts to eliminate neglected tropical diseases (Neglected Tropical Diseases/NTDs)," he said.
However, I admit that the evaluation results noted a problem in the online reporting system in Mamasa Regency which only reached 27.8 percent, compared to other regencies which had been in the range of 95-100 percent.
"Strengthening the digital-based reporting system is a priority for improvement in the coming year," he said.
Nursyamsi emphasized that disease prevention and control are long-term investments in regional development.
"The success of leprosy and leprosy control is not just a statistical figure, but about maintaining the quality of life of the community and preventing disabilities early. This is part of the strategy to build a healthy, productive, and competitive generation," he said.
In the future, the Sulbar DKPPKB will continue to strengthen early detection, community education, improving the quality of case management, and optimizing the reporting system.
"With cross-sector synergy and the support of the district government, West Sulawesi is optimistic that the target of eliminating tropical infectious diseases can be achieved sustainably," said Nursyamsi.
