Mayweather to Retire After Exhibition Match Against Mike Tyson

JAKARTA - A few days before his 49th birthday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced that he would end his retirement and return to professional boxing after a spring 2026 boxing exhibition match against Mike Tyson.

Mayweather has signed an exclusive deal with CSI Sports/Fight Sports as his promoter for the next stage of his career.

"I still have the ability to set more records in the sport of boxing. Starting from the upcoming match against Mike Tyson to my next professional match."

"No one is going to generate more revenue, have a bigger global broadcast audience, and make more money with every match than me."

"I plan to continue to do so with my global media partner, CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS," Mayweather said in a written statement to ESPN.

Mayweather retired from boxing at 40 after a KO victory over MMA star Conor McGregor in August 2017.

He has a perfect record of 50-0 with 27 KO wins. Since then, Mayweather has competed in several exhibition matches against boxers such as Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura, and John Gotti III.

In September 2025 it was announced that Mayweather and Mike Tyson would meet in an exhibition match in the spring of 2026.

There are reports that the fight will take place on April 25, 2026 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but ESPN cannot confirm the date and there is no network designated to broadcast the match.

Meanwhile, Mayweather has been in the news in recent weeks as he filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Showtime earlier this month.

Mayweather claims he is entitled to at least $340 million of the $1.2 billion reported in his career fight earnings.

Mayweather will return to the sport of boxing with a completely new set of competitors, who are almost half his age.

However, Manny Pacquiao's recent return to professional boxing suggests that the much-talked-about rematch between the two boxers after their 2015 meeting could happen as a professional boxing match.

"Signing Floyd Mayweather to return to boxing after he recaptured the attention of audiences around the world with his fight against Mike Tyson, highlights our commitment to providing the sport's most famous boxers to our global audience."

"Floyd will once again dominate boxing with the largest audience and the highest-grossing event of all time."

"We are proud and honored to be able to do this with our global team at CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS. We look forward to other announcements that will delight fans and continue to build this sport in 2026!" said Richard and Craig Miele, co-founders of CSI Sports/Fight Sports, in a written statement.
