Sweden Urges Citizens to Leave Iran amid US Threat of Attack
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard urged her citizens to leave Iran amid the rising risk of escalation in the region.
"The situation in Iran and in the region is very uncertain. Therefore, I want to emphasize the importance of the Foreign Ministry's appeal not to make any trips to Iran, as well as an urgent appeal to Swedish citizens in the country to immediately leave Iran," Stenergard wrote on the social media platform X. reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, February 21.
He emphasized that it is still possible to leave Iran by flight or border crossing, and reminded Swedes to leave immediately while there is still a chance.
"Significant personal responsibility lies with individuals who choose to remain in Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not be able to assist the evacuation process from Iran," Stenergard added.
The warning came after US President Donald Trump said on Friday he was "considering" a limited military strike to pressure Iran into reaching a deal, without giving details, amid an increased US military presence in the region.
