Neymar Considering Possible Retirement at the End of 2026
JAKARTA - Brazil striker Neymar says he lives from year to year while considering retirement at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old is currently playing for his boyhood club Santos, where he joined from Saudi club Al Hilal last year. He hopes to play for his country at the 2026 World Cup this summer.
He has suffered from injury problems in recent years, most recently a knee injury, but is still under contract until the end of 2026.
"I don't know what will happen from now on, I don't know about next year. Maybe when December (2026) arrives, I want to retire. I live from year to year now."
"We'll see what my heart decides. It depends on what my heart says later this year."
"This year is a very important year, not only for Santos, but also for the Brazilian National Team (National Team) because this is the World Cup year and for me. I want to play this season with 100 percent performance," he told Brasil Caze.
Neymar returned to action after undergoing minor knee surgery in December 2025, coming on as a substitute in a 6-0 win over Velo Clubeto on Monday, February 16, 2026, early in the morning WIB, which took Santos to the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Paulista.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who is Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances, has played in three World Cups.
