Prabowo encourages capital market reform to strengthen global investor confidence
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated the government's commitment to carry out reforms in the capital market to strengthen global investors' confidence in Indonesia.
The affirmation emerged in a meeting between the President and a number of international investors, as conveyed by Danantara Pandu Sjahrir's Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in Washington DC, United States, Friday (20/2) local time.
Pandu said that the meeting was attended by many large investors who came from Los Angeles, New York, London, and a number of countries in Europe. The investors discussed intensively with the President for about two hours.
"We were talking about reforms carried out in the capital market," said Pandu, quoting Antara.
According to Pandu, investors assess that the capital market has a crucial role in increasing confidence in Indonesia's economic prospects.
During the discussion, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strengthening the legal system and legal certainty as the main foundation for reform.
Both of these things, said Pandu, received wide appreciation from investors. He also said that investors considered legal certainty to be a key factor in encouraging long-term investment flows.
"There were many languages such as confidence building and they (investors) really appreciated the language that the President emphasized regarding the strengthening of the legal system, the certainty of the legal system," explained Pandu.
In addition, the establishment of BPI Danantara which was initiated by President Prabowo also received a positive response. Global investors are said to have become accustomed to partnering with various sovereign wealth funds in the world so that they see Danantara as a potential strategic partner in Indonesia.
He added that a number of investors expressed interest in starting to invest through a partnership scheme, with Danantara as one of the entry points for investment into Indonesia.
