Pertamina Ensures Energy Imports from the US are Transparent in accordance with Regulations
JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri emphasized that the energy agreement between Indonesia and the United States worth 15 billion US dollars (approximately Rp253.3 trillion) will be carried out fully transparently and in accordance with the regulations in force in both countries.
Simon emphasized that the entire process of importing energy was carried out openly through tender and bidding mechanisms, not direct appointments.
"All processes are transparent to ensure that the rules are carried out properly," he said in a virtual press conference from Washington D.C., Friday, February 20, reported by ANTARA.
The Indonesian government and the US on Thursday (19/2) officially signed points of agreement for a reciprocal tariff agreement, one of which contains certainty of the purchase of energy commodities from the US worth a total of 15 billion US dollars or around Rp253.3 trillion.
The value includes the purchase of LPG of 3.5 billion US dollars (Rp59.1 trillion), crude oil of 4.5 billion US dollars (Rp76.0 trillion), and refinery gasoline of 7 billion US dollars (Rp118.2 trillion).
According to Simon, the energy agreement with the US is not only aimed at ensuring national energy resilience, but also becoming part of a strategy to diversify supply sources.
Indonesia, he said, needs to expand the source of imports both for crude oil and processed products in order to obtain the most competitive prices. In addition to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Pertamina sees great opportunities from the United States as a strategic partner.
He emphasized that this agreement is a win-win solution for both countries, while still respecting each other's regulations.
After the agreement was signed, Simon said Pertamina was waiting for finalization in the next 90 days. He emphasized that all stages would be carried out according to the procedures and principles of compliance, with the support of the government in the form of decisions, permits, and other technical support.
"We hope that all processes as part of this trade agreement can proceed well, providing the greatest benefits for the Indonesian people and our partners in the United States," said Simon.
