Sony Officially Closes Bluepoint Games Development Studio in March 2026
JAKARTA - Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will close Bluepoint Games, the development studio behind the remake games Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, in March 2026.
Sony Interactive Entertainment officially acquired Bluepoint Games in September 2021. Unfortunately, after almost five years, Sony decided to close the studio.
The news was first confirmed to Bloomberg on February 19, 2026. This closure is part of a business strategy adjustment amid the increasingly complex challenges of the global gaming industry.
SIE's CEO of Studio Business Group, Hermen Hulst, in an internal email to employees said this decision was made after considering the increasingly challenging industry conditions.
He highlighted the increasing cost of game development, slowing industry growth, changing player behavior, and global economic pressures as factors that complicate the sustainability of game development.
"This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is a very talented team and their technical expertise has delivered an incredible experience to the PlayStation community," Hulst wrote in his statement, citing Gematsu.
However, SIE stated that it would seek opportunities for some of the affected employees to join the PlayStation global studio network.
In the same statement, Hulst also confirmed that PlayStation Studios still has a strong roadmap for fiscal year 2026, with a number of projects to be announced in the coming months.
