Google Prevents 1.75 Million Dangerous Apps from Entering the Play Store in 2025
Google revealed a decrease in the number of malicious apps that tried to enter the Play Store in 2025. The number of these apps is said to have decreased thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Google's security report shows that the company managed to prevent 1.75 million apps containing malware or violating Play Store policies last year. These apps were found before being published.
This figure has decreased compared to 2024. At that time, the number of malicious applications that Google found reached 2.36 million. This decline is also seen in the number of developer accounts blocked by Google's security system.
As many as 80,000 malicious developer accounts have been terminated by 2025, much lower than previous years. According to Google, they managed to protect the app store thanks to the layered AI protection they use.
"Initiatives such as developer verification, mandatory pre-review checks, and testing requirements have raised the standard of the Google Play ecosystem," Google said. "Layered AI-based protection (also) prevents bad actors from publishing malicious apps.
Currently, Google's security system runs more than 10,000 checks on each application. These checks are carried out in the form of manual review and the latest generative AI integration before and after the application is published to the public
That way, Google can detect attack patterns that are difficult to recognize manually. In addition to malware problems, Google has also managed to prevent 255,000 applications from trying to access user sensitive data excessively.
The company also blocked 160 million spam reviews that were carried out to damage the reputation of certain applications. Seeing a decrease in the number of malicious applications on the Play Store, Google plans to continue increasing its investment in AI technology this year.
