BANTUL - The Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB) of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, reported an incident of burial of a COVID-19 corpse that did not comply with funeral health protocol procedures in Trimurti Village, Srandakan District.

The head of the Bantul FPRB, Waljito, said that the report to the police was in response to the burial of the COVID-19 corpse in Lopati Hamlet, Trimurti Srandakan which did not comply with the procedures for burial of the COVID-19 corpse on Tuesday, June 1. Therefore, the FPRB visited the Bantul Police for coordination and follow-up hearings on the incident.

"We convey what the public has complained about, especially the Srandakan FPRB, which recently saw some people reject the burial of the COVID-19 body according to the prokes, and instead bury it in general," said Waljito after an audience at the Resort Police.

According to him, bodies that are indicated to have been exposed to COVID-19 should be buried according to procedures by officers and volunteers. However, the family and some residents refused and buried themselves without using complete personal protective equipment (PPE).

"I have conveyed to the police because this institution is one of the pillars of enforcement related to handling COVID-19, hopefully we will encourage it later, we ask the police to follow up on this incident," said Waljito.

He said, if criminal elements or incitement efforts were found or obstructed the policy of enforcing health protocols in the COVID-19 funeral incident, the police must take firm action.

"So that it can be a form of therapeutic shock and learning to the community about handling COVID-19, which we all believe is a pandemic that must end soon," said Waljito.
