DBD Threat Increases After Flooding, Aceh Tamiang Lack of Drugs and Fogging Tools
ACEH - After the flash floods that hit the Aceh region in late November 2025, the threat of environmentally based diseases began to increase, such as triggering a surge in mosquito populations, so that the risk of dengue transmission became a serious concern for the local government.
This condition prompted the Aceh Tamiang Regency Health Office to request additional support in the form of drugs and fogging equipment. The head of the Aceh Tamiang Health Office, Mustakim, said that the insecticide supply for fumigation is expected to run out in the next two weeks.
"Fogging drugs will be exhausted in the next two weeks. So we have sent a letter to the Ministry of Health," he said when met at the local service office.
He hopes that the request will receive a response soon so that the 15 health centers in the Aceh Tamiang area can resume fogging as much as possible. In addition to the lack of drugs, his party also faces the problem of damage to the device. All fogging devices belonging to the service were reported to be damaged due to being submerged in the flood. In December last year, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia had distributed two fogging units as emergency aid.
However, the two units are considered inadequate to reach the 216 villages scattered in the district. For the time being, the local health service is working with the regional health service to help implement fogging.
"This shows that the Health Office is committed to reducing the number of mosquito populations during the flood emergency response," said Mustakim.
In order for the handling to be more effective, his party proposed an additional 14 fogging units. The plan is that one unit will be operated by the district health service and the other 13 units will be distributed to the health centers. Currently, two assistance tools from the ministry have been used by two health centers.
The request is considered urgent considering that from December 2025 to February 2026 there were 11 suspected cases of dengue fever. A surge in mosquito populations was also reported in 35 evacuation points registered with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
"The mosquito population at the refugee points located at 35 refugee points registered at the BPBD has drastically increased," he said.
This situation is also the concern of the Regent of Aceh Tamiang, Irjen Pol. (Purn) Armia Pahmi, who asked that cross-sectoral handling steps be strengthened immediately. Following up on this direction, the health service has increased coordination with various parties while educating the public, especially residents in the evacuation, to be more disciplined in managing waste.
Mustakim appealed to residents to collect garbage into plastic bags and not let it scatter so that it does not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. According to him, fogging and spraying abate will not be effective without being accompanied by environmental cleanliness.
"The efforts of fogging or fogging and the provision of abatement will be more optimal if it is followed by routine waste management," he said.
With the combination of equipment support, adequate drug supplies, and community participation in maintaining cleanliness, the local government hopes that the increase in mosquito population after the flood can be immediately controlled.
