BNN DIY Disrupts the Smuggling of 2.71 Kg of Marijuana from Sumatra

JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta has thwarted the smuggling of 2.71 kilograms of marijuana carried by suspect F from Baturaja, South Sumatra.

Head of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) BNNP Brigjen Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono explained that the suspect F and the evidence were arrested on Tuesday (17/2) afternoon when he got off at Jombor Terminal, Sleman Regency, DIY.

"The arrest was made after we received information from the community so that BNN conducted an investigation," he said as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 20.

The suspect F departed from Baturaja on Monday (16/2) at 05.00 WIB and arrived at Jombor Terminal, Yogyakarta, the next day, Tuesday (17/2) at 17.25 WIB.

Upon arrival in Yogyakarta, the suspect planned to meet with his friend who had been in prison.

According to Sulistyo, suspect F is not the first time bringing marijuana to Yogyakarta. In 2022, the person concerned was arrested with 600 grams of marijuana as evidence and only came out of prison in April 2025.

"This time the evidence brought was larger, namely 2.71 kilograms," said Sulistyo.

The BNNP DIY eradication team seized evidence in the form of 12 packages of marijuana and one cigarette tin containing marijuana, totaling 2.715 kilograms.

The details, three packages containing 2.055 kilograms of marijuana, nine packages containing 660 grams of marijuana, and one cigarette containing 0.57 grams of marijuana.

In addition, officers also seized a backpack, one mobile phone, and a pair of trousers belonging to the suspect.

A number of marijuana packages were purchased by F from his friend in Kapahiang, Bengkulu.

According to Sulistyo, until now investigators are still investigating the motive for the suspect to bring the narcotics to Yogyakarta.

"We are still investigating further related to the network, both the upper network and the lower network," he said.

The suspect F was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustment, with a threat of death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
