Suffering from ALS, Eric Dane Dies at the Age of 53

JAKARTA - The sad news came from the entertainment industry. Actor Eric Dane died on Thursday, February 19, US time. The actor was declared dead after he revealed his disease, ALS or progressive neurogenerative.

"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a long battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by his good friends, his wife, and his two children, Billie and Georgina who were the center of his world," the family told People.

"He will be missed and remembered always. Eric loved his fans and was forever grateful for the support and love he received. The family asks for privacy as they navigate this time," he said.

Eric Dane was born in San Francisco in 1972. He started his career by starring in several shows such as Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, Roseanne and Married... with Children.

In 2006, Dane played Mark Sloan in the series Grey's Anatomy. Because of his character, he became one of the different regular cast members from the original plan.

Some of the series he has played are Helter Skelter, The Last Ship, Family Guy, Euphoria, Wireless. In 2025, he starred in three series, namely Countdown, Kabul, and Brilliant Minds.

In terms of films, he also played a role in a number of films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, Valentine's Day, Americana, Dangerous Waters, and others.

He last starred in the film Borderline in 2025. He also joined the film Family Secrets which has not been publicly released.

Eric Dane was once the talk of the town in 2009 after a video of his affair with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and another woman went viral on the internet. Dane then revealed that he was struggling with depression with rehabilitation.

Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018 but the lawsuit was withdrawn in 2025.

Eric Dane died at the age of 53.
